PRESS STATEMENT

The People’s Progressive Party (PPP) has taken note of the potable water woes affecting huge swathes of residents at rural communities across the country.
The Party is fully cognizant of the non-transparent and inexcusable manner by which Richard Van West Charles, son-in-law of the dictator Forbes Burnham, was appointed Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Guyana Water Inc. Machinations at GRO signals gov’t intention to re-establish PNC rigging machinery

PRESS STATEMENT

The People’s Progressive Party (PPP) views with utter disdain the uncalled for allegation by Winston Felix that the staff at the General Register Office (GRO) is engaged in corrupt practices.
To publicly chastise his own staff accusing them of engaging in corruption must be demoralizing for staffers who are known to be diligent and professional.

Opposition Leader says Gov’t plans to borrow loan from US Oil Company reminiscent of PNC philosophy which left tax payers with huge debt to repay

CaptureOpposition Leader Bharrat Jagdeo today questioned plans by the APNU+AFC government to borrow US$2B from U.S oil company Exxon Mobil. Jagdeo said such a move will put Guyana ‘in the pocket’ of the oil giant as the country will not be able to negotiate on even terms.
He also said the move to borrow from the U.S company appears designed to avoid the rigorous transparency and accountability demands of the more reputable international financial lending institutions such as the IDB and World Bank.
Jagdeo was at the time speaking during a press conference hosted at Freedom House.

APNU+AFC violated tender process when handing Ramjattan’s client Speciality Hospital contract

istock_000005206645smallA former Junior Finance Minister has said that the APNU+AFC violated the tender process when it handed Fedders Lloyd the contract to construct the Speciality Hospital. Speaking to a local media house, Juan Edghill, who served in the Donald Ramotar led PPP/C government said the Granger led APNU+AFC government has breached the country’s procurement and tendering process in its bid to ensure Khemraj Ramjattan’s client secured the contract. Floundering economy results in 69.7% Guyanese unable to repay mortgages

Speaking at the party’s weekly press conference held on Wednesday last, former Housing Minister Irfaan Ali said based on data in his possession hundreds of Guyanese are on the verge of losing their properties. This he said is as a result of their inability to pay their mortgages and it is attributed to the floundering economy.
