PPP notes attempt to remove Venezuela from MERCOSUR Presidency – Calls on Gov’t to state its position

 

The People’s Progressive Party (PPP) says it notes with interest attempts by some member states of MERCOSUR to take over the presidency jointly from Venezuela for this coming semester.

mercosur_economia-647x388In a statement released on Thursday September 29th the party said Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay, in a joint statement called on Venezuela to speed up the ratification of the agreements of the regional mechanism or face the possibility of suspension from the bloc.

Delivery of GT&T bills being hampered by 80% increase in Post Office fees – Source

timthumb-phpThe delivery of utility bills to customers of the Guyana Telephone and Telegraph (GT&T) company has been delayed over the past two months.

A source at the company revealed this is as a result of a sudden increase in the rates charged for delivery by the Guyana Post Office Corporation (GPOC). The fee paid by the telephone company has been increased by as much as 80% the source said and it stands to affect the company’s finances. Dataram’s escape facilitated by ‘higher-ups’ – Law enforcement source

20150421barry-dataramDrug trafficker Barry Dataram was Tuesday fined GYD$164,268,000 and sentenced to 60 months imprisonment for being in possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking. However, the self-confessed drug trafficker was not on hand to hear the verdict nor face the sentence. Reports are that he fled the country to Suriname via the back-track route and using false travel documents.

PPP says procedure related to appointment of new GECOM Chairman not being followed

Surujbally to leave GECOM – PPP General Secretary says protests have paid off

20160531_122739Chairman of the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) Dr. Steve Surjubally, is expected to resign from his office. This follows a series of protest action undertaken by the People’s Progressive Party(PPP) since the May 2015 elections. The party says it has lost confidence in the Chairman’s ability to discharge his duties in an impartial manner. Broadcast Authority Board members accused of bullying cable operator to sell to businessman

An investigation is expected to be launched following allegations by an Essequibo cable service provider that he is being bullied to sell his operation by two Board members of the Guyana National Broadcasting Association (GNBA).

A report carried on Wednesday in a local newspaper said that Cable Broadcaster, Kenwin Charles, of Northwest TV Inc. accused Anthony Vieira and Victor Insanally of trying to force him to sell his operation to an Essequibo businessman.
