I wish to respond to a statement issued by the Office of the Prime Minister, bearing the caption: “OPM refutes Nandlall’s lies – calls on sugar workers not to fall prey to attempts to incite.”
This statement is in response to last week’s ‘The Unruly Horse’. The thrust of the statement was to paint my article as a litany of lies. It is the classic artwork of the Prime Minister. I am familiar with his craft, having known him for several years. The truth is my article comprised of a compendium of undisputed publicly ventilated matters relating to the sugar industry. The People’s Progressive Party (PPP) in saluting Guyanese on country’s 50th Anniversary of independence reminded of the role played by its late founder leader Dr Cheddi Jagan in the struggle against colonialism.
As part of its celebrations to mark Guyana’s 50th anniversary the People’s Progressive Party (PPP) will be holding a family fun day.
In a release issued on Wednesday the party said that the “Cheddi Jagan/Independence Family Fun Day” will be held on Saturday, May 21st on the lawns of the Cheddi Jagan Research Centre (Red House), in Kingston, Georgetown.
The event which includes a cultural programme, Independence Photographic Exhibition and book display starts from 14:00 hours and persons are being urged to bring out their entire family as there will be lots of fun, food and games.

People’s Progressive Party(PPP) General Secretary Clement Rohee said Prime Minister Moses Nagamootoo was lying when he told a recent gathering that he suffered immensely as a member of the PPP because of his Christian orientation.
While addressing persons gathered at the launch of the AFC’s headquarters in Kitty over the weekend, Nagamootoo declared that “the public will never know” how much he suffered as a result of not being Hindu in the PPP.
“…It had always been thought that the PPP was some type of pro-Hindu party and when it was discovered that I was a Christian, I suffered disqualification that I lived with for many…many years,” he remarked.
