Below is a press statement by the People’s Progressive Party(PPP) in which it says it will bring a motion in the National Assembly against Government’s institution of 14% VAT on private education. The party also called out the AFC after the small coalition member said it will canvass Cabinet to review for a review of the measure.
“The PPP recalls that the AFC voted along with the APNU in imposing VAT on private education during the 2017 Budget debate when the accompanying VAT measures were being imposed in the National Assembly. In so doing the APNU+AFC rejected the PPP’s plea not to impose VAT on private education”, the PPP noted. Continue reading PPP TO TABLE MOTION AGAINST VAT ON PRIVATE EDUCATION – HOPES FOR AFC SUPPORT
The members of the medical profession in the public sector have expressed great concern at the high-handedness of the Government in attempting to peremptorily and unlawfully place all public sector doctors on the pensionable scheme. The PPP/C stands in solidarity with the doctors who, without any consultations and against their will, are being mandated to move from contract employment to the pensionable scheme. These doctors will lose their benefits; gratuity; and allowances. Their years of service will be shortened, thereby decreasing their benefits under the pensionable scheme. The doctors are also worried and outraged by the fact that their on-call allowances, Head of Department, Head of Section and overtime allowances will all now be taxed.
